What's new:  Beginning with slideshow CD Volume #15 and up (see left column), the usual screen resolution of "800 x 600" has changed to a larger "1280 x 960".  If you currently have your screen resolution set to 800 x 600, or 1024 x 768, or 1280 x 960, you won't have to change ANY settings in order to view them in "full screen" mode, as the slideshow software will automatically resize them to fit your screen.  (Volumes 1 thru 14 will remain the same at "800 x 600", and are best viewed in that particular resolution).  If you have any other screen resolution settings in affect on your computer than the three mentioned above for Volumes 15+, then it will be best to adjust yours to one of those three (the highest setting of the three, 1280 x 960, will be the very best and amazingly sharp!).   See HERE for easy instructions to bump your screen resolution settings either up or down, for your best possible viewing enjoyment.  Another new feature we are implementing for those who own EXTREMELY large monitors with resolutions in excess of 1280 x 960 will be the ability to stretch the slideshow images to fill the screen boundaries within whatever resolution you may have, by simply right-clicking your mouse while a slideshow is playing, and selecting "stretch image".  This will only be available for volumes 15 and up.

Avid railfan, railroad historian, and railroad photographer since the early '70s, Verne Brummel offers his extensive collection of railroad slides for your viewing enjoyment in this ongoing series of Slideshow CD-Roms (see left column), and Slide Duplicates / Prints, which may be ordered from almost any slide image you see on any CD-Rom.  Choose from these in-depth volumes listed at left, CD-Roms filled with hundreds-of slide images from the 1970's, a revealing look back at some of the greatest trains, locomotives, depots, and rail lines in modern railroading history, all professionally color corrected, cleaned and restored, presented in easy-to-view slideshows by photo restorer and CD-Rom editor Dave Cramer.  These are EXTREMELY high quality digital transfers of slides, performed on top-of-the-line equipment.  All CD-Roms have been created using professional slideshow software.  To sample a variety of random full-screen images (if viewed in 800x600) from the CD's, click here!

Check back in the weeks ahead for more volumes of Verne Brummel slideshow CD-Roms.  If you would like to know each time a new title is released, please send a BLANK e-mail to the following address (please do not send correspondence to this address):

RRslideshows-subscribe@
yahoogroups.com

...and then follow the directions as prescribed by the FOLLOW-UP E-MAIL you should receive from "Yahoo Groups".  If you don't receive the follow-up e-mail immediately after sending the blank e-mail, CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER, in case it accidentally ends up in there.  This will sign you up for an "announcement - only" Yahoo Group, letting you know each time a new title is released in the series.  Upcoming subjects may include a look at various rail lines, stations, depots, special trains, etc. from a variety of roads.

Typical example of how one of the CD's will work:  Simply insert a CD-Rom, and it will auto-start, taking you to a menu from which you can choose what part of the CD you would like to view first.  Click on your selection of interest, and while viewing the slideshow, when you "right-click" your mouse, you have the options of toggling the captions "on" or "off", and to "pause" at certain images, among other options.  Once that slideshow is finished, you are taken back to the main menu to choose another.  If for some reason the CD does not auto-start, click on the CD-Rom icon in your "My Computer" folder.

To order Slide Duplicates or Prints from the images you see on your CD-Rom, click here.

Recommended System Requirements:  Windows 98 / ME / NT 4.0 / 2000 / XP / Vista or higher.  Display (for Vols. 1 - 14): 800x600 screen resolution.  If you currently have a much higher screen resolution setting, simply go to your computer's "Start Menu / Control Panel / Display / Settings" and change the setting to 800x600 or the next highest if yours doesn't go to that number.  Display (for Vols. 15 and higher): 1280x960 screen resolution, however 1024x768 or 800x600 will also work fine.  If you have a much higher (or different) screen resolution setting, simply go to your computer's "Start Menu / Control Panel / Display / Settings" and change the setting to either 1280x960 (best), or 1024x768 or 800x600.  Your CD-Rom or DVD-Rom drive must be able to run the "CD-R" format.  Please make sure that it does.  Most all of the latest CD-Rom and DVD-Rom drives will be able to play the CD's without trouble.  As a rule, only the very oldest of drives (not able to play the CD+/-R formats) will not be able to, but there may also be an extremely small number of "cheapie" factory - installed newer models that won't either, or may have trouble playing certain brands of CD-R.  Simple solution if you have trouble is to upgrade to a better DVD-Rom drive, or to play on a different computer.  While only recommended for Windows 98 and above, it will also run on the Mac OSX, but only if you have installed a Windows XP Terminal Emulator, or have a program called "Boot Camp".  Note that you may not be able to pause, fast forward, or access other options if playing on an operating system other than Windows.  The CD should also run on Linux with a program called "Wine".  WILL NOT run on TV set-top DVD players.

As with major retail outlets, due to the nature of CD-Roms, there will be no refunds.  If for some reason a CD will not work on your system, try it on another computer before returning it.  If it runs fine on the second computer, then your computer is at fault, and may need an upgrade.  In all likelyhood, the culprit is your CD-Rom drive / DVD-Rom drive, and it may need to be upgraded to one that can read the "CD+/-R" and "DVD+/-R" disc formats, which has been the standard for all new drives for a number of years now.  Several years ago, it wasn't...  If the CD does not run on either computer, while highly unlikely since all CD's are tested before shipping, the CD itself may be at fault, and you may return it for an exchange of the same CD Volume within 30 days of purchase.  If the CD which you return runs fine on my computers, then there will be no exchange, and I will ship it back to you, as the problem is with the computer(s) you have access to.  We are not responsible for CD's you attempt to run on outdated or incompatible computers.  Please read the System Requirements carefully!  As for CD's damaged in mail, you may return the damaged CD within 2 weeks of purchase (CD ONLY, no case) for an exchange of the same CD as a replacement.  Feel free to e-mail with any questions.  These CD's are provided "as-is", without any express or implied warranty, except where noted above.

On a personal note:  We are NOT in a contest with fans of the latest and greatest megapixel camera images, highest "screen resolution" fans, or "giant size monitor" fans.  While what we offer are still gorgeous by comparison, they are what they are... OLD SLIDES, meant more as an educational tool, filled to the brim with history, rather than to simply make you drool over pretty pictures.  That said, we believe that they STILL look better than most of the old slide images that you will find on the Internet, and have gone to great pains to clean them up, which has proven to be a very time-consuming process.  Take a look at our samples as proof.  Even with all of our attention to making them look great, we had to set some boundaries going in (back when we started making our first volumes).  Among them were... if we used too high of a resolution, the slideshows would not perform well on older computers not able to handle them, without us having to make a serious hit to image quality in order to bring file sizes down, which we did not want to do, and DIDN'T do.  Looking at a giant-resolution image on the Internet is one thing.  Having +/-600 of them playing off of a CD program in your CD-Rom drive on an old computer is quite another.  We took these concerns into consideration when making them at the time, never anticipating that a 17" monitor would be considered "small" in the years to follow.  The volumes made in 800x600 screen res will look FANTASTIC on your average 17" monitors, and SHARP! (even on some larger monitors with lowest resolution selected), and are especially well-suited for those with laptop computers.  As mentioned above, we have upped the screen resolution to 1280x960 for Volumes 15 and up, to give you an even greater viewing experience on larger monitors, and may raise it higher still with future projects, if average monitors become the size of a house.

Disclaimer:  All of the slideshow CD's we make are being sold FREE OF CHARGE.  Just like the people who offer coupons on eBay, what you are paying for is our time and effort for the labor involved to compile and restore the slide images contained on these CD's, and for other time and shipping - related expenses.  We have imposed a mandatory fee on each CD for our services.  The CD's themselves are free.

Dave Cramer is currently the only authorized dealer of these CD's.  Authorized resellers include Verne Brummel, and the C&NWHS.  Please report anyone you know who may be posting images on the Internet, selling unauthorized copies, or filesharing contents from these CD-Roms.  Send an e-mail.  Thank you!

Verne and I have several slideshow CD's on the horizon for a variety of railroads, which, if we make them all, will take years to complete.  In order to produce top-quality results, it requires a tremendous amount of time and effort on our part, especially when it comes to cleaning and restoring each and every one of the 1000's of  slide images...  We don't want to do a "rush job" by any means.  In order to achieve the very best end products, we sacrifice a lot, without reaping very much in return.  How far we decide to take this project depends upon if it will be worth our while to continue to make them.  If you would like to make a donation to support our cause and to help ensure that we keep making more CD's, please click on the "donate" button below.  We appreciate your support!

Once I have completed transferring Verne's slides and restoring them for viewing on slideshow CD's, I may decide to move on to other (as yet undetermined) railroad slide collections for transfer to CD-Rom's.
